The jungled hills beyond Istria's southern border have always been a barrier. Their dark depths contain more than enough hazards to keep humans from expanding into the jungle in anything other than dribs and drabs. They are hot, humid, teeming with life, and not at all explored.
Fifty years ago, a comet entered the planet's atmosphere and fractured into many pieces. The fragments impacted well within the jungle, sites no human eye is believed to have seen. In the years after this event, the jungles became more dangerous still; to step under the canopy is to open death's door and offer yourself for the reaper's taking.
Tales abound of horrific, ravenous monsters that live in the green shadows. Of plants that ensnare animals and feed on their blood. Of predators that cannot be seen until they stare into your eyes, the heartbeat before tearing out your throat. Proof is distinctly lacking, as no one dares to test the fables.
That which dwells in the jungle is a secret best left undisturbed.
Character Options:
Creatures which hail from the Broken Lands are a) too tainted to pass as human, b) too tainted to want to pass as human, and c) have to make it past the Hunters in the Fringe before reaching Maratha. For the most part, the first two stipulations are enough to keep them from being PCs. Add in the guaranteed level 4 taint, and any that do appear on-grid will be very high on Maratha's Most Wanted list; their lives will be quite short. As NPCs, Broken Land denizens are restricted to staff-run or -approved events.
