New players will probably notice one major difference between Maratha and many stat-based games as soon as they enter the stats chargen room: there is no point pool. There are, in fact, no coded limitations or restrictions upon your +sheet whatsoever. You can set your stats and skills as high (or as low) as you please. You can add as many gifts (and flaws!) as seem appropriate to you.
However.
Said sheet must receive the approval of the administration before you can start playing. This means there are some practical limitations.
For the average character, most stats and skills will have base values in the -1 (below average) to 1 (above average) range. Base stats are very general descriptors, as a rule, and most characters don't rate a 2 in every situation.
High-level tainted and mages are likely to have one or more at 2 — or at least more likely for this to be the case.
There's also no limitation on gifts or flaws, though — which means you can fine-tune your sheet as much as is necessary. These modifiers let you effectively raise (or lower) your stats in specific situations. For example: if your Melee is 1, but you have a gift like "Dagger Skill (Melee+1 when wielding a dagger)", then you get to add a +1 modifier whenever you roll Melee for using a dagger. In effect, the roll acts like you have a 2 in Melee instead of the 1 your sheet shows. This modifier applies only when the character is using a dagger, and does not affect the use of other weaponry (maces, axes, swords, etc.), which is governed by the base stat.
( See the overview for explanations of all stats, skills, and their possible values. )
The commands for editing your +sheet are:
Stats and Skills
| +stat <stat>=<val> | Directly set <stat> to <val>. | +stat cha=2 |
| +skill <skill>=<val> | Directly set <skill> to <val>. | +skill melee=-1 |
| +raise <stat> +raise <skill> |
Raise the given attribute by 1. | +raise range |
| +lower <stat> +lower <skill> |
Reduce the given attribute by 1. | +lower will |
Gifts and Flaws
| +gift <name>=<desc> +flaw <name>=<desc> |
Add a gift or flaw to your sheet. Include in the description its effect — what modifier it provides. |
| +add gift <name>=<desc> +add flaw <name>=<desc> |
Works just like +gift / +flaw, above. |
| +gift <name> +flaw <name> |
REMOVES a gift or flaw from your sheet. |
| +rem [gift] <name> +rem [flaw] <name> |
REMOVES a gift or flaw from your sheet. You do not need to specify which kind you're removing, but you can. |
