Nimue runs a small shop in the city, Aloe and Saffron, which specializes in plants and plant products; she's also a practicing mage, a past graduate of and intermittent visitor to the academy. Her family are bakers in a northeastern riverside port town, so people from that area may be familiar with Nimue and/or her mother, Isolde.
If you need a plant, part of a plant, or gardening advice, Nimue can provide. She is often hired to determine why a plant is ill, and to identify found flora or mysterious substances. Nimue can give some indication of whether a plant has toxic or medicinal effects, and does provide many common and simple remedies, but is not herself an apothecary. However, she is on excellent terms with several of the city's herbalists, who come to her for rare ingredients and various enchantments, both on their stock and the remedies they supply.
Description:
Nimue is almost never seen without her heavy, charcoal-toned cloak, its hood usually drawn up around her face. As she moves, drab brown leggings can be glimpsed beneath the cloak's hem, tucked neatly into the tops of her boots. Similarly, the long sleeves of her ivory shirt end somewhere under the young woman's charcoal gloves. Not even the hottest weather seems able to induce Nimue to remove her coverings.
In the shadows of the hood, little can be seen of Nimue's face save her light green eyes. When she does bare her head, the face framed by short, dark hair is olive-skinned. Her features are neither sharp nor plain, but a comfortable medium; balanced, without being perfect. What tends to draw the eyes most, however, are the striking marks tattooed on her skin — ribbons and shapes that begin in a knot at her left temple, curling down over her cheek and along her jawbone, a single stray streamer arcing above Nimue's left eye. Those marks vanish beneath the neckline of her blouse, while their analogs on the right — a line beneath her right eye and several marks barely visible along the woman's hairline — have more definite ends.
History:
Nimue was born in one of Istria's northeastern towns; not quite a full-fledged city, but more than a mere village. Situated on the banks of the Surain, a few dozen miles south of Kalmar's border, it was a busy little port town. This almost by default accorded her parents a measure of success; their little bakery never lacked for customers. The middle child of three, Nimue expected to apprentice in their business and follow their footsteps - but in the year her formal apprenticeship was to begin, at the age of 12, she tested positive for magical ability. Rather than become a baker, the girl traveled to Istria and studied magic.
The glyphs and their unique specifications did not come to her easily; she would never be a scholarly mage. But she had to memorize the basics before she could specialize, which is why Nimue took two years to find her personal niche. What came to her easiest were those glyphs derived from life and earth - all things relating to plants, some involving animals, and a stray few which originated in fire. Came from growing up around a bakery, no doubt. In her last three years at the academy, the teen spent as much time learning flora and fauna as she did glyphs.
Late in her nineteenth year, Nimue passed the tests which made of her a full-fledged mage. Armed with the medallion marking her status, she and a friend traveled Istria for over four years — or so Nimue says. She never has given details about where she went during that time.
Not quite a year ago, Nimue returned to Maratha and opened Aloe and Saffron.
